GI Tag Your Heritage
Geographical Indication tags protect your craft's identity, increase its value, and prevent counterfeits. We help you and your cluster apply — completely free.
What is a GI Tag?
A Geographical Indication (GI) tag is an intellectual property right that protects products tied to a specific place — like Madhubani painting (Bihar), Banarasi sari (Varanasi), or Dokra craft (Jharkhand).
India recognizes GI tags under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999. Once granted, only producers from the registered geographical area can use the name commercially. It's legal protection, economic uplift, and cultural recognition — all in one.
Higher Prices
GI-tagged products sell at 30–80% premium on average.
Counterfeit Protection
Legal recourse against fake imitations using your craft's name.
Global Recognition
GI tags are recognized internationally under WTO TRIPS agreement.

Crafts We've Protected
Without Weavehand, the Tikuli GI tag would have died with us. They paid the lawyers, formed our association — we just had to attest the application.
Our village had been practising Madhubani for 2500 years and finally we have legal protection. Our prices jumped 65% in a year after the tag.
Is your village craft worth protecting?
If your craft has been practised in a specific region for 25+ years with at least 50 active artisans, you're a strong GI candidate. Reach out for a free assessment.
